T-14 Days to Launch

We’re now down to the last two weeks before the live game development show launches on Twitch and Youtube, so we’re busy getting everything as ready as we can get it. Eric put together a test episode of Blue Tengu unplugged, the bonus show where he puts away his development tools and dives into his pile of unfinished games on Steam to relax a little.

Unfortunately, the microphone wasn’t picking up his voice so well, so the music and SFX from the games crushed his voice. But, that’s why it was worth testing! We’ve saved the result on Twitch, but if you give it a listen, just ignore the inaudible talking head and enjoy the games:

  • Among the Sleep Demo
  • Spelunky (Daily Challenge)
  • Race the Sun (Daily Runs)

With just two weeks left to go, we want to introduce you to another of the characters joining Eric on his journey to make a video game. This time it’s Bob, the programmer.

Bob the Programmer

Bob: 1000 DISPLAY “Hello world!” LINE 1 POSITION YourBrowser.

Bob’s been…out of practice. He has all of the principles down, which is why he was chosen for the team, but he missed the boat on the post C world and trusts objects about as far as he can cast them (not very far…).

As always, in the interest of opening up the insides of our development process, here’s a list of tasks we’ll be working on in the next two weeks:

  • Making the theme music for the intermission program in LMMS (Eric’s house, the producer’s office, titles and game over)
  • Introducing the rest of the cast
  • Producing an episode of Blue Tengu unplugged with proper microphone levels
  • Putting together a list of 10 games that have influenced us the most
  • Adding a voting form so you can pick the games Eric plays on Blue Tengu Unplugged
  • Writing the second episode of the show to make sure it’s ready to go!

As for the tasks we listed in the 30 days to go post, we’re happy to report we’ve cleared through them all!

  • Intro & Closing Video (Blender, Lightworks or Avidemux, whichever ends up doing the job)
  • Intermission assets (RPG Maker for placement & scripting, Photoshop for png design of characters & BG)
  • A little more work on the site to link everything in (WordPress)
  • Early Greetings Video (again Blender, Lightworks or Avidemux, whichever ends up doing the job)
  • More music for the main show and for the intermission (LMMS)
  • Test Run (a sneak peek of the show to test the Twitch.tv <> Youtube <> bluetengu.com interface)
  • Opening the store for business (over at Spreadshirt)
  • Spreading the word to a few people

But of course, we’ll add tasks as we find them, won’t we Bob?

Bob: print*, “Is it nap time yet?”

Fortran, Bob? Eric had better hope for some good middleware.
